There’s more to running a successful online store than having a good website and awesome products; it’s also really important that you present your products the best way you can.
There are two simple rules when it comes to product packaging: sturdy and aesthetically pleasing. The product package has to be strong enough to withstand the journey to the customer, and shipping isn’t exactly a delicate procedure either.
The packaging is the first physical interaction your customer has with your product, so you want your package to look great.
Need some inspiration? No worries — I’ve got some! Take a look at these successful online stores who use pretty packaging to delight their customers.
Nasty Gal
For most of their items, Nasty Gal uses white boxes with the logo on the outside and lip prints on the inside. If you’re buying an accessory from them, they’ll wrap it in bubble wrap and seal it off with a sticker. Their pretty packaging style is minimalist with a hint of playfulness.
Mr. Porter
Mr. Porter uses all-white boxes and paper bags, with their simple logo marked clearly in black on the front.
It’s simple and elegant, accurately representing their brand image. It’s important that your packaging complements your product and your brand. Mr. Porter is a perfect example of ‘less is more’; packaging can be effective without being fancy and elaborate.
They also include small cards with customers’ names on them, which adds a personal touch.
ModCloth
ModCloth uses a carton box with a custom design printed on it. They use white and lavender to print on the box with really dainty and feminine doodles and text.
They made their packaging an extension of their website. When you receive an order from ModCloth, you instantly relate to their look and match their products to their packaging.
Personalize your packaging for that extra ‘oomph’
It’s not required, but consider adding a personal touch to your packaging by creating designs reflective of your store’s personality. It’s definitely a value-add when your customers receive your product, and pretty packaging will help make your brand much more memorable.
